For centuries artists have chosen stretched canvas as a base for their paintings. The alternative all those years ago was wooden panels which limited the size of the finished work and also was prone to absorbing moisture in the winter months only to split when the panel dried out in summer time.
Woven canvas however, was available in much larger widths and lengths and could even be joined to create very large works but had to be stretched over a wooden frame to create a flat working surface. Canvas just like wood will absorb moisture causing the canvas to sag in the frame but frames were eventually made adjustable having tapered pins at all four corners of the frame to increase the tension of the canvas to overcome that problem.
My paintings also feature these tapered pins, reflecting the attention to detail on my work.
